Paris: An International City

Paris is a major international city, and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, drawing over 30 million foreign visitors every year. It is filled with iconic landmarks and a host of other attractions, as well as world famous institutions and public parks.

The city is one of the foremost cultural and business centres of the world, with its influence permeating politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, the arts and science. The Paris Region, officially Île-de-France, is also the country's premier hub of economic activity, accounting for more than a quarter of France's entire GDP or gross domestic product, which is to say, more than €500 billion (nearly US$650 billion) in goods and services. In addition, the city hosts some the world's largest corporations in its well-known business districts, such as La Défense, as well as several international organizations, among them UNESCO, the ICC, the OECD, and the Paris Club.
